When we met up, Polly and Alex described their wedding style as “fun, relaxed and unconventional” -they wanted a “party with friends” more than a formal sit down affair and wanted a documentary style Brentwood wedding photographer or Essex wedding photographer who could capture it all for them. They had loved the relaxed style of my wedding photography and felt I would fit in perfectly with their guests. Polly and Alex chose Mountnessing Village Hall in Brentwood for their special day and decorated it with lots of bunting, DIY wedding decorations like hand painted signage and colourful flower displays in jam jars. The couple gave guests beer and champagne glasses with a special logo designed for the day as wedding favours. They also had a really quirky, unusual guest book; a length of white ribbon for well wishers to write their messages on in colourful pens. I just loved this idea!

The handmade, colourful theme was perfect for such a fun day filled with laughter and love. I started the wedding photography coverage by capturing the still life, e.g. their wedding bands that fit inside each other, moving on to natural portraits of guests and the bridal party. After a brief ceremony, guests moved outdoors to enjoy drinks on the grounds whilst we took a few group shots. Mountnessing Village Hall is situated amongst the rolling green hills of Brentwood and felt like the perfect venue to get some natural, light filled romantic shots. We actually did two couple's portrait sessions, one in the lovely September afternoon sunshine and another quick one in the evening as the sun was setting, so we took full advantage of the windmill and grounds of Mountnessing Village Hall.

The whole wedding was really laid back: there were no official speeches during the buffet (only a quick thank you by the groom), guests could relax and enjoy a beer tent decorated with colourful lights and even a pub quiz in the evening.
